Add rate-my-professor to INCKU
Hi,
I received a suggestion today that I thought would be a great tool or
possible use for the site. It was suggested that we have a section where
we can give feedback about our experiences with classes and teachers. That
way we can decide which classes we want to take and which classes we should
avoid.
I like this idea because at home, www.ratemyprofessor.com was a really
popular site and it helped me make a lot better decisions when choosing
classes. Also, professors are able to see what their students think about
their teaching, can adjust to meet their needs. Also, if it becomes
effective enough then the bad classes will have fewer people and the
faculty will know that they need to improve in those areas. It might add
some accountability.
Thanks, man.

NCKU Rank-my-professors implemented
But I need a little bit of help...
Please read the news I wrote about it here .
Anonymous ID or username
The most important thing to rate the professor need to be "anonymous ID" or username. So, everybody can rate freely and write more suggestions.
"No pain no gain, but not all pain is a gain"
not necessarily
I think people should be given a choice whether they want to submit their opinion anonymously or not. Maybe someone would want the professors to know who gave him/her a good or bad evaluation...
a few points missed on the posting of the suggestion
An important point I think to add is that we should try to keep the feedback on the courses and professors professional and useful.
each course could have our comments on a description of what we learn (not the syllabus but what we *actually* learn in the class), what basics if any is best to have going into the class, work-load (this of course is subjective), prof's teaching style, what one found useful, not useful, and suggested improvements. Trying to keep it constructive and respectful while being honest.
and we could search by course or by professor...then again I am a database non-expert to say the least, so i don't know what would be needed to set it up like this.
Good idea...
Aye!
Agree with this new function...this do strength the academic purpose of this website a lot! And a way to attract ppl to come to use this! Could be sensitive but since iNCKU gonna remain its unofficial independence, should be alright from my point of view... Recall when I was an international student in the States, I lived on that rateurprofessor website to choose my classes, otherwise, I hv NO CLUE about what's the most worthy courses there I should take advantage of! this gonna take a long time to build up the data base then, but it's the vision !!
Thumbs UP!!
I may quote the
"Message from the Dean of College of Management"
Yu-Hern Chang
Dean of College of Management and Distinguished Professor of Transportation, National Cheng Kung University
in the letter written by
Da Hsuan Feng
Senior Executive Vice President
National Cheng Kung University
to the Global friends and alumni of NCKU:
" Action Plan
Promote the College's multiple assessment and incentives to ensure the fair assessment of faculty members' teaching skills and service (along with research). This will allow the three component parts (teaching, research, and service) to be integrated in order to achieve our pursuit for excellence."
and
"2. Teaching Excellence
(1) Reward teachers on improving their teaching methods but also establish multiple assessments..."
I would also like to quote a professer better left unknown upon the question, if there are any teaching evaluation methods at this university?:
" Yes, the students do this every semester. The evaluations used to be collected and then archieved under "P" (=pile of paper). Now the evaluation system has become better, it is done online. This means there is no more need to archieve the pile (...of paper)."
Yes, I am sure there should be an independant way of evaluating the teaching methods of professors, and especially so that the information is made public. Furthemore, and this is directed at any administrators of the university reading this; it will only raise the credibility of NCKU if this info is made public... as long as there is nothing to hide.
Yes, I do think this would be great step forward for the current and even more a legacy for any future students thinking about applying at NCKU.
@ fiLi: I am not sure if it can help (I am an IT dummy) but there is a site commonly used for surveys: www.my3q.com
Maybe it can be used for something like this... and it's free...
