Somehow, many of the NCKU students don't know that they have the option of taking free Chinese classes in the NCKU Chinese language center. Here's from http://kclc.ncku.edu.tw/langcenter/e2-3.html :

Objective

We started to offer Chinese Classes for Foreign Students (CFS) from 2006.The CFS classes are designed for NCKU foreign students who are without Chinese language ability or with limited Chinese learning experience. These classes are helpful for NCKU foreign students to be equipped with Chinese abilities which are essential to solve the problems in their academic studies and daily life in Taiwan.

Course Information

We offer CFS classes to beginner, basic and basic-intermediate level students from Mondays through Fridays. We follow the schedule of the University and start the CFS classes at the beginning of each semester. Besides 3-hour CFS-Regular classes, we offer 2-hour CFS-Optional classes in academic year 2007. CFS-Regular classes are designed to assist the foreign students to acquire Chinese ability while CFS-Optional classes are designed to emphasize on students’ oral, reading and writing ability.

Applying for Credit-Waiver for “Chinese (I)/(II)”

The NCKU undergraduate students can apply for credit-waiver for “Chinese (I)/(II)” after successfully completing requirements (scores and attendance) of CFS-Regular classes.

NCKU Chinese Proficiency Test (NCKU CPT)

All the CFS students are required to take Chinese proficiency tests during semesters in order to evaluate students’ Chinese abilities. Starting from 2006, all the CFS students would take “NCKU Chinese Proficiency Test”(NCKU CPT), which is designed by NCKU Chinese Language Center. This test consists of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Field Trip

We arrange field trip in every semester in order to provide more opportunities of experiencing the beauty of Taiwan’s culture to the NCKU foreign students

I've been told by a teacher from the Chinese Language Center that starting this semester, all optional classes in Chinese Language Center, and there are many of those, are free for NCKU students.
